学史叙述の方法はさまざまあるが、社会学の場合に限らず自ら正統と目され構成があることもまた事実であろう。それは学問の起源から歴史的展開をたどり現在にいたるまでの学説を時代風潮に絡めて記述する所謂通史である。これに対し本書は学会中心とした全く新しい構想と独自の視角で試みる社会学史である。
