内容説明

This book details the first attempt, under a single cover, to offer an account of the lives and achievements of well known orientalists: English, Scotch, American, Indian ,French, and German. These scholars explored the regions of archaeology, epigraphy and paleography along with the religion of the vedic Aryans. Inspired by the desire to understand and interpret the wonder that is India, they have left us a legacy of inestimable value. The orientalists are: William Jones, Charles Wilkins, H. T. Colebrooke, H. H. Willson, George Turnour, James Rajendralal Mitra, Kasinath Trimbak Telang Fergusson, Bhaudaji and Indraji, Buhler, Monier Williams, Max Muller, J. F. Fleet, Edwin Arnold, Ralph T. Griffith, Sister Nivedita, W. Whoteney, Anundoram Borooah, Macdonell, Vincent Smith, A. B. Keith, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Paul Deussen, Dr. Bhandarkar, and, Sylvain Levi.
