Volume 2 of ""Progress of the World's Women 2002"" explores the challenges of tracking and determining progress for women. Its goal is to support efforts to improve the monitoring of and advocacy for implementing the commitments made to women in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of 2000. The book outlines goals, targets and indicators using hard comparative data. It charts the share of female literacy, enrolment in education, wage employment, seats in national parliament, and populations living with HIV/AIDS by region, tracking changes over the last decade. Finally it points out innovations in measuring and monitoring gender equality around the world.
