<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Gold nanoparticles have been prepared by the laser ablation of a gold plate in imidazolium-based ionic liquids. The size and stability of gold nanoparticles were dependent on the wavelength of the laser light and the alkyl-chain length of the imidazolium-based cation.</jats:p>
