Abstract

Efficiency of dilute emulsion washing for oily soil was examined. First, washing test with test fabric soiled with oily soils using Terg-O-Tometer was performed in dilute emulsion system of surfactant / higher alcohol / water. The results show that emulsion washing was more effective than the washing by simple surfactant aqueous solution in the case of non-polar and medium-polar oily soil. On the other hand, the washing efficiency of the emulsion system for high polarity oily soil was lower than that of surfactant solution. As for the carbon number of higher alcohol, detergency of oily soils was increased as the carbon number increased more than 7. Surface tension measurement showed that the surface tension of emulsion system is lower than that of surfactant solution. This fact indicates that the high detergency of the emulsion system for non-polar oily soil and medium polar oily soil was largely due to the increased interfacial activity relevant to emulsification or rolling up.
