Abstract

We compared the work efficiency, status of working, and teamwork in the workplace when wearing casual clothes or work uniforms, involving 24 female university staff members who usually wore the casual clothes. We also examined 86 female students’ impressions of clerical staff members working under the two conditions. The results are summarized below: 1) Regarding the searching for the specific three characters in the text, the frequency of searching was significantly higher when wearing work uniforms compared with casual clothes. 2)Concerning the status of working, tension was significantly more marked when wearing work uniforms compared with casual clothes, and movement was easier with the latter without discomfort. Teamwork did not markedly vary between the two conditions. 3)The students more favorably evaluated work uniforms in terms of “reliability/appearance”.
