Description

This book is concerned with religious activity in 18th century America. Contrary to most views, Bonomi shows that religion became if anything more pervasive in American society in this century. This was partly due to the religious fervour of the Great Awakening, but even more to the centrality in American life that established religion maintained through the Revolution. Professor Bonomi focuses not only on religious issues and ideas, but on the careers and daily routines of clergy and the composition and attitudes of their congregations.
