Description
Throughout the British Isles little girls, and sometimes little boys, are to be found carrying on the tradition of singing games, in street, playground and park. The Opies, famous for their pioneering work on children's lore and literature, have collected some 150 games and songs, including "Ring a Ring o'Roses", "Oranges and Lemons", "Poor Jenny is a-Weeping", "The Farmer's in his Den", and "Here We Come Gathering Nuts in May". A companion to their "Children's Games in Street and Playground" , the book is illustrated with photographs, lithographs, and prints. The words to each game are given in full, and nearly every game is accompanied by the tune to which it is sung.
