Description
This book represents the second part of Integrated Systems of the CNS in the Handbook of Chemical Neuroanatomy. Part 1 was concerned with limbic regions and the hypothalamus, as well as with the retina. Part 11 contains reviews of central pathways associated with four major sensory systems. Future parts will deal primarily with motor systems and the 'reticular core' of the brainstem. It has the been the goal of the authors that each chapter in this volume should provide a current overview of the anatomical organization of the principal functionally defined neural systems in the mammal, as well as what is known about the localization of neurotransmitter-related molecules within them.
Table of Contents
I. The central visual pathways (J.G. Parnavelas, A. Dinopoulos and S.W. Davies). II. The somatosensory system (L.M. Aitken). III. The somatosensory system (A. Rustioni and R.J. Weinberg). IV. Gustatory and related chemosensory systems (L. Kruger and P.W. Mantyh). Subject Index.

Description
This volume of the handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the major functional systems that together make up the central nervous system. Individual chapters deal with the organization of each of the sensory systems, the motor control system and systems that integrate responses involving multiple sensory and motor components. Special emphasis has been placed on the identity of neurotransmitters within this circuitry.
Table of Contents
I. The hippocampal formation and septal region (L. Swanson, C. Kohler and A. Bjorklund). II. The amygdaloid complex (J.L. Price, F.T. Russchen and D.G. Amaral). III. The hypothalamus (L. Swanson). IV. The retina (B. Ehinger and J.E. Dowling).
