内容説明
How can teachers best respond to the educational needs of a multicultural society like that of Britain today? Arguing that the answer must lie in the continuing development, in partnership with their colleagues and the wider community, in curricula which fully reflect the nature of that society, the author provides, for teachers, students, school governers and others involved in the provision of education, a guide to current thinking on the multicultural curriculum and to the practical initiatives which are available for its construction and implementation. The book draws on material both from the United Kingdom and other countries such as Australia, USA and Canada. It sets out the case for multicultural education and the social ethic and principles which are fundamental to it; the opportunities and challenges which the multicultural curriculum offers to teachers; a model for the construction of such a curriculum with examples of existing systems; and ways in which the community can and should participate in the process. Previous books by the author include "Education for Community", and "Teaching in the Multicultural School".
