内容説明

The last two decades have seen an enormous growth in public concern for our environment. In answer to this there have been major developments in the application of the science of ecology to environmental management. Ecological approaches are being applied not only to planning and pollution control and land reclamation, but also to landscape design and management where important new developments are taking place. This book is the outcome of a joint meeting of the Landscape Institute and the British Ecological Society at which the whole new relationship between ecology and design in landscape was explored by leading ecologists and landscape architects from a wide range of countries. The volume examines the principles and practice in relation to all stages of landscape development from establishment to final maintenance. It shows the great advances to be gained when ecological principles are properly incorporated into landscape design and the way ecology has a great deal to gain from practical considerations that are involved in the construction of new landscapes, whether urban or rural.
