内容説明

This book examines the many controversial theories and methods of music education which have been developed, and provides a rationale for the variety of musical activities which play an important part in schools today. In turn, sections of the book cover developments in music teaching up to the practices of the last few decades and musical styles in history. Peter Fletcher argues the case for teaching music historical styles, music theory, and analysis, and stresses the importance of participation in the performance and composition of music. The author discusses objectives and methods relating to classroom and instrumental teaching; running youth orchestras; teaching ethnic, vocal, and popular music; and presenting live music to children. Issues facing educators and musicians today, include coping with scarce resources while trying to meet essential priorities. Readership: music teachers; general education at all levels; parents and professional musicians.
