Description and Table of Contents
Description
Containing over 6,000 spectra, this three-volume set constitutes the largest available collection of infrared spectra of macromolecular substances. Volume 1 contains 1900 spectra of a similarly large number of polymers and is based on a new and efficient system of classification that arranges polymers first according to their elemental composition and then according to their structural characteristics. The authors provide in each case as much information as possible about structure, synthesis, origin, properties, and literature. They also provide three indexes: an author index, an alphabetical index giving the names of polymers, including old names as well as those recommended by IUPAC, and an empirical formula index giving the element composition of the structural repeating units. Volume 2 deals with the identification of the technical polymers, plastics, fibers, rubbers and resins, their raw materials, and decomposition products. Part A contains some 2800 spectra of the most important commercial products. For each product information is given about the manufacturer, composition, properties, and applications. The technique used in producing the spectrum is also described.
In the case of low-molecular substances (starting materials and degradation products), the most important physical constants are given. Part B gives a general introduction to the analytical methods. In addition to infrared spectroscopy, chemical analysis, Raman spectroscopy, chromatography, and pyrolysis mass spectroscopy are discussed. This atlas is a unique tool for the identification of polymers and an indispensable aid for the analyst working in research, development, processing, and application of plastics. It is available at a special subscription price.
