内容説明

This collection of essays tackles the question of how the European Community's Common Agricultural Policy relates to contemporary drives for the liberalization of world trade in international produce. The opening up of world agricultural markets is a major item on the agenda of international economic institutions and the CAP, created as a foundation stone of European economic integration, has been criticized for preserving high domestic food prices, destabilizing world food markets and wasting common financial resources. The contributors systematically analyze the most important economic models of agricultural trade (general equilibrium, sectoral and commodity) to assess the effect of liberalization on domestic world food prices, international trade, inter-sectoral and inter-regional income distribution and agricultural incomes. These technical assessments are set in the context of broader institutional issues which affect both the selection and outcome of policies.
