From the Preface: "The aim of these volumes is to bring together researchers and engineers working in various aspects of computational methodologies related to approximate solutions of engineering design. With the advent of supercomputers during the past ten years, the numerical simulation of mathematical models originating from physics have rapidly evolved and matured to become the preferred method of analysis alongside theory and experimentation. There is no doubt about the key role of new computational methods in the future development of engineering technology, which requires increasingly intensive numerical simulation for a better understanding of the underlying physics."
