"The Management of Pain" discusses the aetiology, pathophysiology, symptoms, signs, diagnosis and treatment of every painful disorder and every chronic pain syndrome. It contains descriptions and illustrations of the sensory (pain) nerve supply of every joint, bone muscle and deep somatic structure in the body. Discussions include cancer pain, causalgia and other reflex sympathetic dystrophy, myofacial syndromes and other musculoskeletal disorders, pain associated with visceral disease, peripheral and central vascular disorders, pain of psychologic origin and other major pain problems. Provided are tables of differential diagnosis which contain a concise description of pain and other important differential diagnostic points on every painful condition and pain syndrome that can occur in each region of the body. This book presents data on the incidence and prevalence of acute and chronic pain syndrome and its economic and social impact on the patient, family and society. Every therapeutic modality in current practice is discussed, including indications, advantages and disadvantages, and complications.
There is a chapter is devoted to the taxonomy of pain adopted by the International Association for the Study of Pain, which designates the numbers to the name of every condition that is discussed throughout the book.
