Description
The third edition of this study has been revised and updated to give an account of research in the history of linguistics that has led to a re-evaluation of some traditional opinions and judgements on certain periods, such as late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. The final chapter on "Linguistics in the Present" has been revised in the light of current developments.
