This collection of papers is a survey of the current state of macroeconomics, one of the most contentious fields of contemporary economic research. The book is divided into four sections. In Part I the contributors present a general overview of modern marcoeconomics with commentaries, concluding with an assessment of the state of the art from the viewpoints of empirical research and policy. Part II and III consider two topics of particular relevance - the roles of labour markets and exchange rates in macroeconomics. Part IV looks ahead, with a paper on macroeconomics and methodology, and a concluding survey of open issues in macroeconomics. The contributors to this volume include Bennett T. McCallum, Jean-Michel Grandmont, Michael Bruno, Dale T Mortensen, Richard Layard, Charles Bean, Rudiger Dornbusch, Hans Genberg, E Roy Weintraub and Assar Lindbeck.
