This volume arose from a UNESCO-sponsored cross-cultural research project on the impact of social and economic changes on patterns of women's work and value systems concerning their social position, taking into account the impact of the oil economy on the Arab region. Based on fieldwork, the studies bring to light variations in the forms and types of women's work in a rural and urban context.
