内容説明

This is a modern textbook of cellular and molecular neurobiology for undergraduates and graduate students. The book is divided into three sections: electrical properties of neurons; intracellular communication; and behaviour and plasticity. It deals with synaptic function and plasticity, the reception and transduction of sensory stimuli, neural networks, and learning and memory, among other topics, and ion channels are discussed in detail. The book is aimed at advanced undergraduates and graduate students of neuroscience and medical students.

目次

  • An introduction to the cellular anatomy of neurons and glia
  • SECTION I: ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF NEURONS: Electrical signalling
  • Ion channels and membrane ion currents
  • Combinations of ion currents give rise to complex patterns of neuronal electrical activity
  • Structure and function of ion channels
  • SECTION II: INTERCELLULAR COMMUNICATION: How neurons communicate: gap junction and neurosecretion
  • Synaptic release of neurotransmitters
  • Neurotransmitters and neurohormones
  • Receptors and transduction mechanisms I: receptors which are coupled directly to ion channels
  • Receptors and transduction mechanisms II: indirectly coupled receptor/ion channel systems
  • Neuromodulation: physiology and mechanisms of induced changes in the electrical behavior of nerve cells
  • Sensory receptor neurons
  • SECTION III: BEHAVIOR AND PLASTICITY: Growth, survival, and differentiation of neurons
  • Adhesion molecules and axon pathfinding
  • Formation and maintenance of chemical synapses
  • Neural networks and behavior
