Description and Table of Contents
Description
Object-oriented database systems have, until now, been seen in two lights, the first focusing on better support for new application areas including CAD/CAM, office automation and knowledge engineering, and the second on overcoming the "impendance mismatch" between data models and programming languages. This book is an overview of developments in this area of current database research. Data model and language aspects, interface and database design issues and architectural and implementation questions are covered. Based on a series of workshops, the contents of this book have been edited to reflect the current state of international research in object-oriented database design and implementation.
