Description

This book is based on a survey of all Community Mental Handicap Teams in Wales and describes the experience of multi-disciplinary working, particularly from the view point of team members. It also assesses the implementations and outcome of the teams' work. Also explored are the elements of effective teamwork and the management support required to underpin it. Many of the issues raised in the recent white paper "Caring for People" such as case management and inter-agency liaison are echoed by similar concerns in the "All Wales Strategy" for mental handicap services, the context in which the CMHTs were operating. The evidence supports the need for delegated responsibility and budgetary control to front-line workers and managers if individually tailored services are to be achieved.
