The first 24 chapters provide reviews of the neurobiology of the chemosensory system, the psychophysical and neural correlates of smell and taste experiences, the development of smell and taste preferences, and the role of smell and taste in regulating eating and other behaviours. The remaining 31 chapters offer practical, systematic guidance on the clinical evalution of patients with olfactory or gustatory disorders, the differential diagnosis, and the diagnosis and management of all olfactory and gustatory disorders, including those caused by infection, obstruction, genetic determinants, trauma, chemical exposure, radiation and drugs and those associated with hepatic, renal and endocrine diseases, neurodegenerative disorders and depression.
