One of the many special features of the book is the listing of computer programs on the statics and dynamics of structures, as well as network analysis. The book contains numerous worked examples, and there is discussion of acoustics and non-linear vibrations under water. Network theory on electrical circuits and hydraulic pipe systems is looked at in detail, and there is comprehensive coverage of steady state field problems which covers heat transfer, fluid flow, and the torsion of non-circular sections. This book is a practical appraoch to the subject and is designed as a companion volume to "Finite Element Methods in Structural mechanics", also by Dr Ross, which was published by Ellis Horwood Limited in 1985.
