内容説明
"Performance-Related Pay in Education" is a detailed exploration of the issues involved in the introduction of performance related pay schemes in education. Against a background of controversy, it seeks to clarify the relationship between performance and appraisal, examining the background to the schemes which have already been introduced in the UK. The opening section sets the UK scene in a wider context, looking at pay structures in Europe and the experience of merit pay in the United States. Focusing outside education, the contributors explore industrial models, examining the relevance of experience outside the education service, as well as the particular case study of IBM. A section on the history of teachers' pay negotiations is set alongside an analysis of how teachers interpret their careers. It looks in detail at teacher appraisal, in the context of the work of the National Steering Group, and evaluates the performance related pay systems that have already become established for officers in education departments and in the first city technology college. This book should be of interest to heads and senior management in schools, LEA officers and governors.
