Description

Based on a nationwide survey, this book looks at the changes over the last decade in the organization of education and the youth labour market. It examines the impact of the changes on the attitudes of teenagers moving from school to their first job or training scheme. This book examines the policies behind the "new" transition and examines whether they have opened up new opportunities for leavers. It outlines the youth training schemes and weighs up their benefits and disadvantages, and defines which young people are the most vulnerable to unemployment. The survey also sheds light on the aspirations of young people, the way they adjust to the labour market, the emergence of different lifestyles among young adults, patterns of leaving home and the effects of transitional experiences on mental health.
