内容説明
This volume deals with the geomorphology of rocky coasts, focusing on contemporary processes and resultant landform changes. The text first explains the fundamental characteristics of waves which drive the process of rocky coasts and then describes water level factors which are tides and storm surges. Mechanical properties of consolidated landform materials are illustrated and present-day processes of cliff recession are examined, with emphasis on the importance and effectiveness of a laboratory approach. Other topics considered include vertical erosion of the sea floor, the mechanisms of platform formation, characteristic landforms, and the various impacts of human activities on rocky coasts, including the future influence of a possible sea level rise induced by the intensified greenhouse effect.
