内容説明

In order to understand how we make sense of the complex auditory world in which we live, it is necessary to have information from a wide range of disciplines. "Processing of Complex Sounds by the Auditory System" includes a selection of review papers and original research papers from leading scientists with interests as diverse as the psychology of music perception and inner-ear biology. Rather than attempting a complete coverage of the vast field of hearing research, the book probes the subject with a series of papers, first presented at a meeting of the Royal Society in December 1991, that deal with developments in each discipline. The result is a multi-disciplinary sketch of the field that should act as both a useful reference and a basis for discussion among research workers and advanced students. These papers are also published in "Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society" series B.
