Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book provides an introduction to the theory of scanning tunnelling microscopy and related scanning probe methods. It is written by experts who have developed the theoretical foundations for understanding the contrast mechanisms involved in the various local probe methods. An overview of the different theoretical approaches is presented which will be helpful for every theorist starting in this field. On the other hand, the implications for the theoretical results are discussed in detail and therefore, this book will serve as a most useful guide for experimentalists as well, facilitating the interpretation of their data. This book is the third of three volumes devoted to scanning tunnelling microscopy and related scanning probe methods that together offer a comprehensive treatment of this subject. The three volumes have the same marketing audience. This audience is not only to be found within the surface science community, but in general physics, chemistry, biology and material sciences as well.
