This publication addresses important issues regarding prostatic carcinoma. Future prospects for a better diagnosis are discussed, a debate on how to develop a screening programme is presented, and laparoscopic lymphadenectomy, a new technique for staging, is described. With respect to disease management, the current surgical approaches for radical protatectomy and the role of radiotherapy are reviewed.
