This book discusses the relationship between the Rockefeller Foundation, a private philanthropic organization in the United States, and fifteen universities in twelve developing countries throughout a twenty year period. Split into four parts it first describes the formation of the Rockefeller Foundation Program and the dimensions to be examined. The second part presents case studies, while part three concentrates on the process of institution building and the critical issues of university development in the Third World. The final part attempts to draw some conclusions about the process of university development from the specific Foundation experience.
