Description
This book aims to provoke and facilitate debate on the issues facing educators in the UK. It brings together a range of authors with a wide experience of schooling. Editor Ian Lawrence sets the tone by asking what has been learned in the last 50 years. Other key issues discussed include: the professionalization of teaching; the transition from school to work; the changing nature and structure of UK primary schools; management training as part of teacher professionalism; the future for special educational needs; collaboration between schools; the need for a radical reappraisal of science and technology provision; the reality of parental choice; and the influence of Europe. In the final chapter, Lawrence asks another question: Education in the UK - obituary or rebirth?
