The WHO definition of rehabilitation is "the combined and co-ordinated use of medical, social, educational and vocational measures for training or re-training the individual to the highest possible level of function and ability". In this second edition of "Rehabilitation of the Neurological Patient", rehabilitation is taken to mean the way in which the individual can be trained or managed to the highest possible level of functional ability and to cope with residual disability in the shortest possible time.
