Description and Table of Contents

Description

Volume 9 provides an authoritative overview of mechanisms controlling differentiation and morphogenesis of bone, especially in craniofacial mesenchyme. The important role played by homeobox genes in patterning the skeleton is reviewed by two major workers in this rapidly moving field. How membrane bones repair themselves is discussed from both basic science and clinical perspectives. Finally, a chapter on mechanisms underlying the developmental integration of skeleton and muscles provides an analysis important for future advances in this field.

Table of Contents

Differentiation of Craniofacil Mesenchyme (R.M. Langille). Morphogenesis of Bone (J. Richman). Homeobox Genes and Skeletal Patterning (H. Haack and M. Kessel). Repair of Fractured Membrane Bones (D.s. Precious and B.K. Hall). Development of Functional Interactions between Skeletal and Muscular Systems (S.W. Herring).
