内容説明

This compendious publication provides scholars with information on the whereabouts of manuscript materials from a wide range of British literary authors - poets, essayists, novelists, dramatists and men and women of letters - of the 18th and 19th centuries. Coverage of the Register includes authors with a strong connection with Scotland, England, Ireland or Wales. All publicly-available documents in the British Isles are included, and brief notes are given about other collections. It includes not only manuscripts, but also correspondence, personal papers and legal documents. Items included in the register include holograph items, typescripts, copies by amanuenses and others, photocopies and microfilms. Intended for biographers, critics, anthologists, scholars and students, this work is comparable in size, range and style, and particularly in its impartial coverage, to the first Location Register project which covered authors of the 20th century. Entries include Pope, Swift, Johnson, Dickens, Eliot, Gaskell, the Brontes, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Christina Rossetti, Tennyson, Arnold and Hopkins; and also such less celebrated authors as John Hamilton Reynolds, Lady Blessington, Caroline Norton, Robert Dodsley, Francis William Neman, Shirley Brooks, Jane Welsh Carlyls, Frances Trollope and hundreds more.
