内容説明

How can local and national museums in West Africa work with the communities they represent? This work draws on the practical experience of the West African Museums Programme in encouraging the establishment of museums which are responsive to local needs and which can contribute in vital ways to the growth and developmentof the community. The contributors argue that in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the community, the focal responsibility falls rather on the local museums than on the centrally-controlled national museums. They suggest that the running of local museums must harmonize with the national museums. Published in association with The West African Museums Programme and the International African Institute; North America: Smithsonian Institution Press
