Description and Table of Contents

Description

This is a detailed and comprehensive review of the state of our environment in Europe. It covers 46 countries in depth using data from a wide range of sources. Extensively illustrated, with over 150 large-scale maps, 600 figures, 200 detailed case studies and over 100 photographs. The vast amount of information is clearly structured, making it easy to follow for both the public and decision makers alike. Written in response to the first pan-European environment ministers' conference held at Dobris Castle near Prague in 1991, and published by the new European Environment Agency which was launched in 1993. This report confirms that complacency can no longer be tolerated and contributes to the 1995 discussions at the Third Conference of European Environment Ministers in Sofia. A complementary 455-page "Statistical Compendium" is also available (ISBN 92 827 4713 1).
