内容説明

This is a collection of essays from the Flood Hazard Research Centre of Middlesex Polytechnic which brings together economists and geographers with philosophers and environmental managers to examine and debate the complex answer to the deceptively simple question: "What is the environment worth?" Throughout, the emphasis is on practical problems and the need for informed decision-making. Research-based examples are quoted to illustrate often complex arguments. The focus is particularly - but not exclusively - on wildlife resources at coastal sites.

目次

  • The value of environmental goods - a modest proposal
  • the economic issues raised by valuing environmental goods
  • "horse and rabbit stew"
  • valuing the benefits of coastal defence - a case study of the Aldeburgh sea defence scheme
  • survey-based valuation methods
  • a consultation procedure for evaluating the environmental impact of coastal protection schemes
