This book sets out to provide guidance to family law professionals on the operation of the new regime arising from the Child Support Act 1991, which will take effect form April 1993. It presents the full text of the Act, rules and regulations, transitional arrangements, interrelationship with other ancillary relief, worked examples showing how the formula will operate and the position in Scotland. The book advises on issues such as what kind of maintenance will be affected - and which children; how the formula will work; what solicitors will need to tell their clients; the role of the solicitor under the new system; whether "clean breaks" will still be possible; how appeals will work; how the new arrangements will tie in with wife maintenance and other financial relief; and how and when the changes will be introduced.
