Description and Table of Contents
Description
Almost every aspect of cell function is controlled by protein phosphorylation, a reversible process tightly regulated by protein kinases and protein phosphatases, and the immune and the nervous systems are no exceptions. This book deals, for the first time, with these two highly sophisticated systems from the perspectives of both protein kinases and phosphatases. In the first part, general mechanisms of protein phosphorylation and the structural basis of tyrosine phosphatases are discussed. The second part describes the physiology and pathology of signal transduction of T and B lymphocytes, primarily via antigen receptors. In the last section, signal transduction in the neuronal system is considered.
