Description and Table of Contents

Description

This electronic monograph deals with the generating and testing of artificial random numbers and demonstrates their applications in practice. Artificial random experiments allow the treatment of a large variety of problems. The software is organized according to areas of application - stochastic models, stochastic processes and evaluation of statistical methods - and the examples chosen range from the control of traffic lights at road bottlenecks, to Maxwell's law on the velocity distribution of gases. The presentation of the material is done via appropriate computer visualization and the theory behind the experiments is given in both the electronic component and the accompanying booklet. Systems requirements are: Intel 486 Pentium or fully compatible processor, 4 MB of RAM (8 MB recommended), Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher, or Windows 95 or Windows NT, CD-ROM drive (quad-speed recommended for the videos), Super VGA graphics card (recommended resolution for the videos - 1024 x 768).
