Bringing together contributions from leading international figures in the field, this 3-volume work comprises of key papers presented at the international conference "Hydrology in a Changing Environment" held in July 1998. Debating the concerns we all have about our fragile environment, these contributions focus on the techniques already available and those being formulated which can quantify the causes of change and offer methods of mitigation and sustainable development. Volume 1 covers developments in our understanding of hydrological systems, provides guidelines of appropriate methods for large-scale modelling, and details the effects of changes in water quality and quantity, and the impacts of floods, droughts and pollution incidents. Volume 2 examines the magnitude of risks to groundwater, as well as looking at the hydrology of arid and semi-arid environments and improved techniques for resource management, whilst volume 3 begins with coverage of the management of environmental hazards such as flood hazards through to erosion processes, and ends with a look at large-scale urban hydrology such as strategic drainage systems.
