Electron transfer is the most important process to take place in natural and artificial chemical systems, playing a fundamental role, for example, in photosynthesis as well as in photography. Such reactions, oxidations and reductions, are involved in, among others, a variety of energy conversion processes, analytical methods, synthetic processes, and information processing systems. This five-volume work is a reference on the theory of electron transfer processes and their applications. Following a foreword by Nobel Prize winner Professor Marcus, renowned experts from all over the world provide an interdisciplinary overview of every aspect of electron transfer. Subdivided into 12 sections, the total 2,500 pages cover the theoretical basis and fundamental types of reactions, as well as the latest techniques for identifying, monitoring and measuring the rate of electron transfer. Since chemists' interests are tending towards complexity, around one quarter of the work consists of tables, formulae and illustrations, while all references are cross-indexed for easy access.
Although this is an essential handbook for every research group working in the field, several chapters or even sections will equally serve as a basis for advanced graduate and postgraduate courses.
