The rapid development of myocardial revascularization from angioplasty to stents, and now to new laser technology has meant that there is an abundance of information available which has not been distilled into a user-friendly format. Confusion exists as to where we are with angiogenesis: what can it do? how do we do it? what is acceptable as a satisfactory result? Drs Kornowski, Epstein and Leon answer the need for a concise reference on the subject. They have assembled a team of internationally-recognised experts who are at the forefront of research and clinical application on myocardial revascularization and angiogenesis. They examine direct, transmyocardial and percutaneous approaches to revascularization. In the latter part of the Handbook, there is discussion about growth factors protein and gene therapy which should serve as a guide and provide background facts so as to ensure greater informational access to the interventional cardiologist.
