This text provides a comparison of the rapidly growing practice of clinical psychology and psychiatry in the medical centre and the complimentary nature of this partnership. Information is given which assists clinicians in recognising and dealing with psychological problems, so demonstrating that psychological/psychiatric interventions can reduce spiralling economic and social costs of illness. Clinical psychology and psychiatry have developed independently in the past, but it is now recognised that psychologists and psychiatrists working together can maximise the effectiveness of treatment and improve quality of life for individuals and families.
