内容説明

This is a new international textbook of endocrinology, which is truly comprehensive in that it covers adult endocrinology, diabetes mellitus and paediatric endocrinology. It is specifically designed for the endocrinologist and diabetologist in training and for general physicians/specialists in other disciplines who need to reference an endocrine topic. The text is well designed with the emphasis on management and the starting point is always the clinical problem rather than science. The relevant science is included in the clinical sections and there is a focus on modern basic endocrine science. To ensure uniformity in style and content in a book containing over 200 contributions, each section has been carefully and fully edited by a dedicated subject expert. Management guidelines are based on the reviews of the evidence. Controversial areas of management are discussed fully. The sections are: Principles of international endocrine practice (section editor Wass/Funder); Clinical neuroendocrinology (Wass); The thyroid (Wiersinga); Parathyroid, calcium and bone metabolism (Thakker); The adrenal gland (Funder/Stewart); The diffuse endocrine system and their hormones (Thakker); Growth and development during childhood (Shalet); Female endocrinology (Franks); Male endocrinology (Nieschlag); Hormone associations of ageing and systemic disease (Ho); Metabolic disorders (Angelin); Diabetes mellitus (Gale/Amiel); Appendices.
