Society is currently faced with many challenging problems relating to transport and the quality of life in urban areas. To solve these, more efficient and environmentally friendly freight transport systems are required to establish sustainable societies. Fortunately, there are now many emerging technologies allowing shippers and freight carriers to develop more reliable transport systems that may lead to improvements in the environment and alleviate traffic congestion. Highlighting new ideas and best practice, and focusing mainly on urban areas, this book examines innovations in modern freight transport systems.
