Description and Table of Contents
Description
This two-volume set consists of plot summaries and analyses of 180 major works of the classics in science fiction and fantasy literature most often taught in high school and undergraduates literature and cultural history courses. The essays examine the work of prominent science fiction writers such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Ursula K. Le Guin,as well as influential fantasy writers such as John Crowley,Ellen Kushner, and J.R.R. Tolkien. The entries in the book discuss individual books and series, arranged alphabetically by title. The main body of each essay consists of twosections. The first is entitled ""The Story"" and the second ""Analysis"". ""The Story"" furnishes the key points of the work and identifies major characters. ""Analysis"" provides critical interpretation of the title. This section also identifies the literary devices and themes used in the work. Also listed are any major awards won by the work.
