内容説明

This concise textbook on the history of Latin America covers its first half-century of independence, from approximately 1820 to 1870. The book examines problems and issues pertinent to the region as a whole, together with a more detailed discussion of those countries (e.g. Mexico and Brazil) that loom large in the region because of their size and influence, or when a particular country's experience illuminates with special force developments of larger significance to the region. There is at present no one volume that satisfactorily treats the development of the newly independent Latin American states during what in United States history is termed the 'early national period', and what was, for Latin America, the time of the formation and consolidation of national institutions. This analysis also provides a basis for the comparison of the Latin American experience in nation-building with that of other non-European countries. Scholars and students of Latin American history.
