内容説明

The progress that has been made recently and the consequent increased interest in Low-Dimensional Solids has been impressive. This volume contains the latest advances concerning the chemistry and physics of, particularly, one dimensional solids, which were treated at the 1979 Advanced Study Institute, held in Tomar, Por- tugal. The subject is treated starting from basic concepts on the physics of one dimension up to the design of new materials and includes technological and scientific applications. The book therefore should be of interest to solid state physicists, syn- thetic chemists and scientists concerned with materials science and technology. Contrary to some pessimistic views, the subject continues to be of interest and very much alive indeed, and new perspecti- ves are open particularly in the domain of new materials and conducting polymers and their technological interest. The Advanced Study Institute was sponsored by the NATO Scientific Affairs Division, and in Portugal, by the "Laborato- rio Nacional de Engenharia e Tecnologia Industrial", the Gulben- kian Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
